Optimizing your categories for wordpress.

-Using Keywords In Your Categories

So you all know we always have a ton of categories but what if you used keywords in them? We want our categories to make sense to crawlers for search engines so we are going to embed keywords into them.

First, What keywords are you trying to rank for?

Let’s say you have categories like

“Uncategorized”

“Misc”

Let’s change these up. Say you are ranking for seo keywords and that your site is providing tips for them.

I am trying to rank for these keywords so if you see in my categories, I have the names listed as these keywords:

Making Money Online Tips

Affiliate Network Tips

Search Engine Optimization Tips

Categories are used in almost every page and this helps Google to better understand what your site is about.

Now what I also do is insert the same or similar info into the category slug.

Like this:

Category Name:

Search Engine Optimization Tips

Category Slug:

search-engine-optimization-tips

or give a better or similar description targeting keywords:

free-seo-tips

seo-tips

free-search-engine-optimization-tips

You can play around with different kinds and see what gets you the best results. Place your thoughts and opinions in our forums.
